Percutaneous Vertebroplasty
Percutaneous Vertebroplasty is used to treat fractures of the spine caused by osteoporosis, the loss of calcium from the bone. Primarily due to the aging process, osteoporosis results in compression fractures of the vertebral bodies of the spine. Now, through the use of fluoroscopic x-ray, a special substance, Methyl Methacrylate, is injected through a needle into the bone, hardening in a cement-like fashion to repair the fracture.
